This poignant story, set largely in a Christian village in Lebanon at the time of the Israeli invasion of the 1980s, is seen through the eyes of a young girl.

Ruba's father retreats into a battle with inner demons just when his family most need him in the real world. Ruba's unshakeable conviction is that he has been cursed by a witch.

She happens upon a glass eye half-buried in the forest and decides it has magical properties she can use to dispell the curse. As she sets doggedly about her mission, war steadily engulfs the village. 

Each wave of the war brings a fresh revelation, tragic or comic, or both. With the battering of invasion at its most intense, Ruba rediscovers her father.
